ARTISTIC STATEMENT 
Rooted A Hero’s Journey Home
We come from stories already in motion—shaped by soil, stirred into meals,
carried through memory. Some are light, while others carry weight—each an
essential part of our becoming.
Rooted is an immersive art installation that invites us into a shared ritual of remembrance and reconnection. It is a ceremonial space where symbol, story, and spirit come together —where each participant becomes
part of the narrative.
Here, meaning is made through gesture and offering. Symbols guide the way,
inviting reflection on where we’ve come from, what protects and grounds us, and
what we carry forward.
It is a journey that is both personal and collective. A moment to listen
inward, to honour legacy, and to sow something lasting.
Rooted is more than an installation—it is a call to presence, a gathering of intention, and an act of remembering who we are.
Where the Journey Begins
The table runners lay the foundation for the experience and feature seven Adinkra
symbols mapping the arc of the hero’s journey.
Originating from Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, The Adinkra symbols are visual expressions
of proverbs and philosophical thought, conveying wisdom, values, and
connections to the natural world.
The deep indigo tones of the runners are heavily features in West African culture
symbolizing symbolizing spirituality, protection, and social identity.
Together, the cloth and symbols set the tone for reflection before the meal begins.
The energy packet placed at each setting extends this intention—offering
tools for strength, protection, and grounding.

Le retour du héros vers ses racines

Nous sommes issus d’histoires déjà en mouvement, façonnées par la terre, mijotées dans les repas, portées par la mémoire. Certaines sont légères, d’autres plus lourdes,
mais toutes sont essentielles à notre futur.

Rooted (Enraciné) est une installation artistique immersive qui nous convie à un
rituel collectif de souvenir et de reconnexion. C’est un espace cérémoniel où
symboles, histoire et esprit se rencontrent, un lieu où chaque participant(e)
devient partie intégrante du récit.
Ici, le sens se crée par le geste et l’offrande. Les symboles montrent le chemin,
invitant à réfléchir sur nos origines, ce qui nous protège et nous ancre, et
l’héritage que nous transportons vers l’avenir.
C’est un parcours à la fois personnel et collectif. Un moment pour s’écouter
intérieurement, honorer notre héritage et semer ce qui perdurera.
Rooted est plus qu’une installation : c’est un appel à la présence, un rassemblement
d’intentions et un rappel de ce que nous sommes.

Le début du parcours

Les chemins de table personnalisés posent les bases de l’expérience et comportent sept symboles Adinkra dessinés à la main, qui tracent l’arc du parcours du héros.
Originaires du Ghana et de la Côte d’Ivoire, les symboles Adinkra sont des
expressions visuelles de proverbes et de pensées philosophiques, véhiculant
sagesse, valeurs et liens avec le monde naturel. Les riches teintes d’indigo
des chemins de table, très présentes dans la culture ouest-africaine,
symbolisent la spiritualité, la protection et l’identité sociale. Le tissu et
les symboles créent ensemble une atmosphère propice à la réflexion avant le
début du repas. Le paquet d’énergie placé à chaque couvert prolonge cette
intention, offrant des outils pour cultiver la force, la protection et l’ancrage.
